Drill and Blast Supervisor

Position description

We are currently looking for a Drill and Blast Supervisor for our Client in Raahe, Finland. 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Render the right service first time
  • Maintain and improve relationships with mining and drill and blast contractors 
  • Interact with customers and familiarize yourself with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities (e.g. QHSE issues)
  • Ensure the use of current and applicable QHSE and functional documentation
  • Participate in QHSE Performance Reviews
  • Ensure adherence to the Risk and Change Management process
  • Comply with QHSE, legislative and functional requirements
  • Ensure understanding of and compliance to legal requirements
  • Report all QHSE incidents
  • Conduct Workplace Safety Observations 
  • Comply with Client requirements and promote QHSE on site
  • Comply with the Emergency Preparedness and Response Procedure requirements 
  • Ensure compliance with PPE requirements
  • Identify and report stoppages or work requirements
  • Assist drill & blast engineer to complete the monthly report
  • Responsible for the execution of the first line maintenance for all of the drilling equipment according to company procedures.
  • Coordinate with the drill & blast engineer and Production Superintendent to efficiently schedule the drilling and blasting requirements and minimize interruption of other mining operations
  • Conduct a Job Safety Analysis for the planned Job
  • Perform lockouts and make the work area safe 
  • Highlight work not done and Task List inefficiencies
  • Monitor and react to control the fragmentation and waste dilution within acceptable limits
  • Implement and manage control systems to ensure drilling, timing and blasting
  • Report on the used materials
  • Capture failure analysis and reasons
  • Management of the Drill and Blast database
  • Report additional work done not related to Work Orders
  • Update and maintain the Site’s Risk Register
  • Facilitate routine Risk Assessments
  • Facilitate Job Safety Analysis
  • Draft site risk management controls and benchmark with client requirements 

Requirements


  • Strong understanding of drilling and blasting equipment, materials and procedures

  • Strong technical knowledge of blasting products and practices including safety is required

  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team

  • Experience from similar tasks

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills



Languages:




  • Fluent in English and Finnish
